Momence City Council met Sept. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

Roll Call

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope. Also present was Mayor Steele.

Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes

Alderman Metz made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 7, 2017, Council Meeting as presented. Alderman Navratil seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Approval of the Bills

The bills were discussed at tonight's Budget and Finance Committee Meeting. Alderman Salomone made a motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Chief Brucato introduced 3 new officers, Katie Novak and Mark Millen. Roger Sippel also hired on, could not attend tonight.

Citizen Forum

1. Chris Doud – Main Street Sign on City Property concerns directed to Mainstreet President.

2. Mark Hampton – discussion of sign near the Post Office sign should be reworded or removed

3. Lisa Hampton – sign

4. Jay Kerouac – what type of request requires council to vote to approve or disapprove.

Many requests have been voted on, a few recently have not been voted on. Requested removal of the sign on Tuesday morning, August 22. Mayor stated that would not happen.

5. Arlene McNeeley – sign is disturbing 6. Michael Costello – sign placed with city approval? Hearing that the sign will be amended or taken down

7. Marlene BeDell – invite everyone to the Heritage Day September 16, 2017 will begin at noon.

8. Janine Loftus Mainstreet explaining the history and reasoning of the sign. Problem with the title, Mainstreet will be changing the title of the sign. The title will have nothing to say about the “marsh” Alderman The dedication has been cancelled.

9. Carol Phillips opposed to the sign.

Alderman Metz made a motion to have the sign, once taken down and corrected, to go to the sign committee for approval prior to be put up. Alderman Temple seconded the motion. All in favor, none opposed.

Old Business

Salomone – budgets need to be ready before next council meeting.

Aldermanic Reports

1. Rebekah Cope –Recommendation from Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals on both meetings held on 7/27/17 Hamilton have been approved for their variance. Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Cook seconded the motion. Aldermen Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes. Merril have been approved for their variance, Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Metz seconded the motion. Aldermen Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

2. Rebekah Cope- First reading amending Payment to the Treasurer Ordinance tabled per Mayor Steele

3. Rebekah Cope – Discuss and Vote on Ordinance Modifying Liquor Regulations and Requirements for Issuing Temporary Liquor Permit Ordinance 830. Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion. Alderman Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope all voting yes.

4. Metz – Water and Sewer meeting Tuesday September 5 at 6:45pm.

5. Salomone budget and finance September 5 7:15 pm

Department Head Reports

Tina Demack looking for donations for Christmas in September golf outing. Chief Brucato – Glad Festival went great, only 2 incidents, new employees feel it was a success.

Treasurer report – revenue and expend reports are in the file, auditors are here things going well.

Mayoral Report

1. Appointment for Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals – seeking a new appointment.

Alderman Metz made motion to adjourn, Alderman Navratil seconded the motion. Alderman Salomone, Navratil, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Meeting adjourned at 8:19 P.M.
