As of March 14, there have been 1,707 Grundy County residents in their 50s who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to numbers being reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

There have been 18,862 residents in their 50s in the county who had been tested, meaning that nine percent of those tested have the coronavirus. Through March 14, there have been 12,555 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 135 deaths from the coronavirus in Grundy County.

Illinois was home to some of the first reported COVID-19 cases in the US. It has suffered numerous waves of the pandemic, which peaked in the fall of 2020. As the Midwestern hub of the US, Illinois businesses suffered greatly, including layoffs at two major airlines based in the state.
