Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Aug. 15.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing a $7,500 fine to Avera McKennan for

violations of regulatory requirements at its medical facilities in Sioux Falls and Mitchell, S.D.

The violations concern the licensee’s failure to monitor occupational exposure of authorized

users involved in the handling and use of radioactive materials at its medical facilities as described

in an Aug. 12 letter to company officials.

The apparent violations were identified in a March 30 inspection report. The inspection was

conducted in November 2019.

The NRC held a regulatory teleconference with company officials on July 15 during which

the apparent violations, their significance, their root causes, and corrective actions were discussed.

Based on the information collected during the inspection and the information provided during the

conference, the NRC has determined that several violations of NRC requirements occurred.

The company has 30 days to dispute the fine or request involvement of a third-party

mediator to resolve the issue.
