Grundy Area Vocational Center issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.
Please take a couple of minutes to complete this 4 question, anonymous survey that Mr. Dite’s Criminal Justice 2 class created.
The purpose of the survey is to gauge the community’s thoughts regarding Illinois Governor Pritzker’s idea of eliminating and/or modifying the Cash Bail System currently used in Illinois for subjects arrested for criminal offenses.
Generally speaking, in Illinois, if someone is arrested for a misdemeanor offense and charged criminally there is a statutory requirement that the arrested person post a cash bond to secure their release from custody/jail. If the arrested person is unable to post the statutorily required cash bond amount, they are held in jail until they appear before a judge, who can reduce the bond and/or release the person pending their next court date.
A judge set’s the cash bail amount for subjects arrested and charged with felony criminal offenses.
