As the Illinois General Assembly’s spring session progresses, more bills are moving forward and being scheduled for committee hearings. At this stage, the public can participate in the legislative process by submitting witness slips through the Illinois General Assembly website.
Witness slips allow individuals to express support, opposition, or neutrality regarding proposed legislation. The form is accessible on the Senate Schedules or House Schedules page under Hearing Schedules at www.ilga.gov. After selecting a hearing from the Today, Week, or Month tabs and clicking on Details, users can create a witness slip by filling out the required fields and submitting them online.
The system enables people to indicate if they wish to speak at a hearing or simply have their position recorded. The window for submitting a witness slip opens once a bill is posted for a committee hearing and closes immediately after the hearing ends. For this reason, constituents are encouraged to submit their slips promptly when a hearing is announced.
“Submitting a witness slip is one of the easiest ways Illinoisans can make their voices heard in Springfield,” according to officials. Constituents may also call or email their representatives to provide input on pending bills.
Sue Rezin, who has served as a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate since 2010 representing the 38th District, replaced former state senator Gary G. Dahl (https://www.ilga.gov/senate/Senator.asp?MemberID=2775).
