The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on March 16 the release of a new commemorative map to mark the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The map is intended to help travelers explore the historic highway and its attractions throughout Illinois.

The release comes as part of efforts to celebrate the centennial of Route 66, which has long been known as the “Mother Road” and remains a popular route for tourists. The new map was developed in partnership with the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway and highlights destinations along the roadway for those participating in anniversary events.

This is the first paper map dedicated to Illinois Route 66 since 1998, offering an updated resource for visitors interested in discovering sites along the famous highway. The project received funding from the Federal Highway Administration, and IDOT published it using recycled paper. Free copies can be requested from IDOT and will also be available at interstate rest areas.

In related state news, Rezin, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2010 to represent the state’s 38th Senate District, replacing previous state senator Gary G. Dahl according to available records.

The launch of this new map aims to support tourism and encourage more people to experience one of America’s most iconic roads during its milestone year.
