The state of Illinois recently concluded a public voting process to decide on the redesign of its state flag. The results showed that voters strongly favored retaining the current flag over any new designs.
During a five-week period, approximately 385,000 votes were cast. The existing flag received more support than the next five most popular designs combined. Initially, over 5,000 submissions were considered, which were then narrowed down to ten options. Among these were historical flags from 1918 and 1968.
Despite the public’s preference for maintaining the current design, lawmakers in Springfield will still need to vote on whether to keep it or adopt a new one.
