Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School District 2C Board met  Oct. 16.

Here is the agenda provided by the Board:

The regular October meeting of the Board of Education of Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary District 2C, Grundy County, Mazon, Illinois, was held on Monday, October 16, 2017, in the Middle School Library. Board President Shane Gilbertson called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

On call of roll, members were present and absent as follows: PRESENT: Sarah Baker, Shane Gilbertson, Nik Weber, Keith Pfeifer, Bob Wagner ABSENT: Bryan Baker, Mike Carey ADMIN: Superintendent Dillow VISITORS: Recording Secretary Alise Marques

Pledge of Allegiance

Superintendent Dillow presented the October Students of the Month. 5th grade: Thomas Milton; 6th grade: Kenny Daggett; 7th grade: Harmony Neal; 8th grade: Case Biros.

CONSENT AGENDA

A motion was made by Member Wagner and seconded by Member Weber to approve the bills and the financial report, the regular minutes and closed meeting minutes of September 25, 2017. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, Pfeifer, Weber, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

OLD EDUCATION BUSINESS

Superintendent Dillow presented board policy updated. Many have only have a few words changed in them but need approved per the State. Three of the more important ones that need submitted this week are 2:100 about conflicts of interest; 4:60-AP4 concerning administrative procurement; and 5:120 dealing with ethics. Member Pfeifer moved to approve updates to the following board policies; 2:100, 2:210, 2:260, 3:70, 4:15, 4:60-AP4, 4:70, 5:120, 5:210, 5:230, 6:80, 6:180, 6:210, 7:80, 7:160, and 8:70. Member S. Baker seconded the motion. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, Pfeifer, Weber, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

NEW EDUCATION BUSINESS

Superintendent Dillow noted that the principals are at the annual principals’ conference. She said that Mr. DiNello left word that those who attended the Reading Conference found it beneficial. Evaluations are going on at the Middle School at this time, and Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week. Also next week is Red Ribbon Week. Our Veteran’s Day program will be held on November 10th this year in the Middle School.

Superintendent Dillow met with the auditors and got our annual state of affairs that needs to be published. She will be putting the ASA report into The Paper also. Mrs. Dillow has finished the transportation billing for the months of August and September and has sent those to Seneca High School and Seneca Grade School. Mrs. Dillow has also been checking into the Elementary School driving pattern now that the asphalt job is complete. Melissa Thomas has been working on straightening records and boxing ones that can be gotten rid of after advertising.

A motion to go into executive session at 7:29 PM for the purpose of discussing appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the district or legal counsel for the district, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the district to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(2)(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057 was made by Member Wagner and seconded by Member Weber. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: Weber, S. Baker, Pfeifer, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

A motion was made to come out of executive session at 7:33 PM by Member Pfeifer and seconded by Member S. Baker. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, Pfeifer, Weber, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Upon coming out of closed session the following motions were made.

Member Wagner moved to accept, with regrets, the resignation of Jennifer Anderson, and Member S. Baker seconded the motion. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, Pfeifer, Weber, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Member Pfeifer moved to employ Melissa Thomas as teacher aide, and Member Wagner seconded the motion. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, Pfeifer, Weber, Wagner, and Gilbertson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Member Pfeifer moved to adjourn the meeting, and Member Wagner seconded the motion. Unanimous ayes adjourned the meeting at 7:38 P.M.
