Morris School District 54 students suspended 93 times in a single school year

Morris School District 54 reported 93 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 93 students during the year. That equates to 7.9 percent of the 1,179 students enrolled.

Of the 50 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 45 incidents. There were four incidents of violence without physical injury. For 45 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 43 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 20 incidents. There were 16 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
