Inspector

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected

Phillip Smagacz as the new resident inspector at the Braidwood nuclear

power plant. The dual-unit plant is located in Braceville, Ill., approximately

20 miles southwest of Joliet and is operated by Exelon Generation Co.

Smagacz joined the NRC in 2008 as a reactor engineer in Region III.

He has also served as the NRC resident inspector at the Fermi nuclear power

plant. Smagacz holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nuclear

engineering from Purdue University.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident

inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. Smagacz will join NRC senior resident inspector

Dan Kimble at the Braidwood facility. They will serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility,

conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.

The NRC resident inspectors can be reached at (630) 829-9506
