Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Feb. 7.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Diana BetancourtRoldán
as the new senior resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant. The
two-unit plant is located in Byron, Ill., 17 miles southwest of Rockford.
Betancourt-Roldán joined the NRC as a reactor engineer in Region III in
2006. She has served as a resident inspector at the Braidwood nuclear power plant
and as an acting senior resident inspector at the Point Beach nuclear power plant.
She earned a bachelor’s of chemical engineering degree from the University of
Puerto Rico and also holds a master’s of mechanical engineering degree from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident
inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. Betancourt-Roldán joins NRC resident inspector
Christopher Hunt at the Byron facility. They will serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility,
conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.
