Illinois Education Association Minooka Region issued the following announcement on April 19.
Great job – you’ve done so much good work! Now, Illinois Representatives are back home and we need you to meet them while they’re home and tell them to Repeal the 3%! The Senate did it and they can too!
If you don’t know who your Representative is or how to reach them in their home office, you can check here. If you want to know more about the issue, check out this short video. And if you want to know what to say, it’s simple:
Ask Speaker Madigan to call the bill to the floor of the House for a vote!
It’s time to take the brick off of teachers’ and members’ of State Universities Retirement Systems backs and Vote to Repeal the 3%! Vote yes on SB 1952!
The Senate has done their job by voting to Repeal the 3%. We’re almost there and only need the House to act on SB 1952. You’ve done a great job. Let’s see this through to the end.
When you do, please let IEAConnect know what your legislator said!
Here is what you’ve done:
Almost 54,000 people have signed the Repeal the 3% petition.
Senate Bill 1952 passed the Illinois Senate last week on a bipartisan vote of 51-5 to move over into the Illinois House. This tremendous victory could not have been done without members like you taking action and engaging your legislators and telling them how important it is that we Repeal the 3%.
A House version of the bill has 44 co-sponsors and more than 67 representatives who have committed to vote “yes” on the bill. We only need 60 of them to support the repeal to get SB 1952 to Gov. J.B. Pritzker to sign.
More than 5,000 emails have been sent to lawmakers.
And more than 1,000 phone calls have been made to state legislators, and 450 of those were made from the floor of the IEA Representative Assembly last week!
Again, thank you for your hard work – we’re almost there!
