B. Report

Deputy Chief Eric Werden told the committee that the current provider for jail food service is done effective May 1, 2019. Discussions included the possibility of an extension of time from the current vendor, the urgency to act on a replacement and the requirements to bid the services. States Attorney Helland stated that the statute reads that an emergency contract can be approved without bidding by the County Board. The matter will be addressed at the next County Board meeting.

A. HB 2861 Clean Energy Progress Bill

Nancy Norton, GEDC explained that the bill contains many provisions and technical changes to the energy procurement market and makes accommodations for wind, solar and nuclear energy. The pros and cons of the bill were discussed including the importance of a commitment to keep the plants open during the term of the legislation. The committee agreed to authorize George Gray and Nancy Norton to move forward with proposed safeguard legislation if necessary.
