Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School District 2C Board met Oct. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular October meeting of the Board of Education of Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary District 2C, Grundy County, Mazon, Illinois, was held on Monday, October 21, 2019, in the Middle School Cafeteria. Board President Shane Gilbertson called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

On call of roll, members were present and absent as follows:

PRESENT: Bryan Baker, Sarah Baker, Nik Weber, Ashley Enerson, Shane Gilbertson

ABSENT: Keith Pfeifer, Bob Wagner

ADMIN: Superintendent Dillow

VISITORS: Recording Secretary Alise Marques

Pledge of Allegiance

Superintendent Dillow recognized the Students of the Month for October. 5th Grade: Kendall Jones, 6th Grade: Madison DeGrush, 7th Grade: Shelby Welsh, 8th Grade: Faith Baker.

CONSENT AGENDA

A motion was made by Member Weber and seconded by Member B. Baker to approve the bills, the financial report, the regular minutes and the closed meeting minutes of September 23, 2019, and the Budget Hearing minutes. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, B. Baker, Weber, Gilbertson, and Enerson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

OLD EDUCATION BUSINESS

Superintendent Dillow noted that the District Leadership Team met on Wednesday, Oct. 9th, to review results from last year and to develop this year’s School Improvement Plans. Member Weber moved to approve the School Improvement Plans for MVK Middle School and MVK Elementary School, and Member S. Baker seconded the motion. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, B. Baker, Weber, Gilbertson, and Enerson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Member Enerson moved to approve a new copier contract with Marco, and Member B. Baker seconded the motion. Our current lease is not up for another year, but Marco contacted Superintendent Dillow with a special that will provide us with faster copiers and will save the school over $7000.00 over the next five years. On roll call the following vote was recorded: Ayes: S. Baker, B. Baker, Weber, Gilbertson, and Enerson. Ayes: five. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Superintendent Dillow presented the board with the Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits Report. This report is generated by ISBE with data supplied to them from our school.

NEW EDUCATION BUSINESS

Superintendent Dillow report for Principal DiNello that the Veteran’s Day Program will be held at the Middle School on November 11th at 2:00 P.M. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held this week on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:30 P.M. and on Friday from 8:00 – noon. Fire Prevention Week was recently held with our local fire department helping the students learn many important fire related topics, including how to put out a fire. Houghton Mifflin Harcort recently sent representatives to train our staff on the new science curriculum. The 7th and 8th grade classes went to see the Seneca High School play, The Diary of Anne Frank. Girls’ basketball is well underway, while boys’ basketball just started practicing today. Mr. DiNello and his committee will be interviewing a PE teacher candidate this Wednesday.

Superintendent Dillow spoke to the board about the copier contract that she has been working on with Marco. She also commented that she is currently talking with a representative from IEMA trying to solidify a new contract for the rental of the building, parking lot spaces, and storage area that they use on our property. She and Mrs. Marques have been looking up the original contracts to see what they cover.

Member Weber moved to adjourn the meeting, and Member Enerson seconded the motion. Unanimous ayes adjourned the meeting.
