Gardner S Wilmington Township Hsd 73 Board of Education met Sept. 24.

PRESENTATION OF FY2020 DISTRICT BUDGET:
Mr. DeLong presented the FY2020 District Budget to the board of education.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR REPORT:
Six Sophomore students were present to discuss the Trap Shooting Team with the board members. They showed a brief PowerPoint Presentation detailing what a USA High School Clay Target League consists of and what GSW would need to do in order to create a new team sport. Students would need to fill out an application to apply for the team , and current administration would need approve each student for participation. There is a 5 person minimum for a team. Each student would need to take the Hunter Safety Course to receive their certification. There would be no cost at this time for the school, as a parent has volunteered to be the coach, parents will provide transportation, and donations are being provided by local businesses and companies. The South Wilmington Sportsman’s Club has allowed the team to use their facility.
AUDITOR’S REPORT:
Janet Brown, auditor, was present at tonight’ meeting to discuss the FY19 Audit Report. She informed the board members that no problems were found and everything she asked for was presented at a timely manner or already out for her review during her on-site audit. She stated that the current board takes care of business and that GSW has very good balances and all funds look fine. Board members are very careful on how they spend money and the budget is in good shape. Overall, the board has been excellent over the years, they have watched all accounts and spent monies well.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mr. Engelman was at the GAVC meeting in Morris tonight, so Mr. DeLong reported on:
● August attendance: 97.8%
● August discipline: 4 detentions and 1 in-school suspension
● Thank You to Carla Muzzarelli and Angie Grieff for updating & painting the concession stand.
● The Art Class will be painting above both the ticket booth and concession stand.
● Thank You to Melanie Wise, Betsy Hennessy and Kelly Steichen for cleaning & rearranging the weight room.
● Thank You to Scott Wise and Bryan Hennessy for putting together an elliptical machine for the weight room.
● Ms. Spiezio and Mr. Posing are looking at purchasing a universal weight lifting machine for the weight room, so several kids can utilize at the same time.
● Bus evacuation drill is completed, as has one fire drill (Sept. 5, 2019)
● Sept 11t h – early dismissal at 11:30 AM for students and School Improvement Day for teachers / staff – Safety drills were conducted with the Grundy County Police Department.
BUILDING AND GROUNDS REPORT : Mr. Josh DeLong presented on the following:
● Parking Lot = Due to weather conditions on Sat, Sept. 21 – only a portion of the student parking area was lined. Still need to finish lines and start painting numbers on parking spots. We will try to finish up on Sat, Sept. 28. Several student volunteers have signed up to help with this project.
● Night-time Custodians = Dion Tjelle is working on the 1s t floor and Kurt Fosnaugh has been filling in on the 2n d and 3r d floors. Things have been going well.
● Sports Boosters – Senior Banners in the gym – Volleyball banners have been hung up and are on display for the season. Thank You to Gardner Grade School for allowing us to borrow their lift to hang the banners.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Mr. DeLong presented on the following:
● Intergovernmental Co-op Agreement with DTHS = It is still on the table with Dwight. We still need to meet with them to discuss details.
● Kristen Ashley, Cindy Gerber and Tim Harvey have been recognized by IASB as achieving Master Board Member Status.
● Threat Assessment House Bill 1561 – This is one of 605 new bills that was passed in Legislative. We need to assemble a safety committee by December and have a “protocol” in place by February 2020.
● Band Performance – The Gardner Area Band performed at the University of Illinois football game on Saturday, September 4. They marched in the Dwight Harvest Days parade on Sunday, Sept 22 and will march in the Grundy County Corn Festival parade on Sunday, Sept 29.
● Bushue Human Resources –Bushue is an outsourced risk management company that focuses on human resources, insurance, policy, and legal services. GSW would pay a flat monthly rate for their services. They have also agreed to combine GSW and BES as one district, and we can prorate the monthly fee.

● Approved the Teacher / Administrator Compensation Report from FY19
