MAINE TOWNSHIP: Nominations Open for Sgt. Karen Lader Memorial Good Citizen’s Award

Awardstar

Maine Township issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.

Nominations are being sought for the 2020 Sgt. Karen Lader Memorial Good Citizen’s Award which will be presented to a Maine Township resident who has demonstrated strong support and dedication to his/her community. The winner will be recognized at the Maine Township Annual Town Meeting on April 14 with a plaque and monetary award.

You can submit a nomination form online or pick one up in person by visiting Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Rd., Park Ridge, during regular business hours of 9 am to 5 pm weekdays. The deadline for submission is April 3.

In 2011, Maine Township proudly instituted the award in honor of Lader, a resident of Des Plaines and a 15-year veteran of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police who lost her courageous battle with cancer in 2010. Deeply involved with Maine Township residents especially in the Neighborhood Watch Program, she was also active in the successful National Night Out Against Crime event held each August. She also worked on Special Olympics and animal rescue.

“Sgt. Karen Lader was a really special person with whom I consider myself lucky to have had the privilege of working with during my Trustee tenure. She had an enveloping warmth and always a beautiful smile,” Supervisor Laura J. Morask said. “No matter what, she always showed up and unstintingly gave of herself to our residents and had that uncanny knack of lighting up the room. Dedicating this award to her continues her legacy of service beyond self.”

Completed forms can be mailed to Clerk Peter Gialamas, at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge, IL 60068, sent via email to info@mainetown.com, or submitted online.

“It was an honor to have known Sgt. Karen Lader. Her commitment to her job and her community was second to none,” Clerk Gialamas said. “She was always a great help to the Township in coordinating our National Night Out Against Crime as well as frequently attending our neighborhood watch meetings. She was someone who truly cared about making a difference.”
