Illinois residents will have to stay indoors until April 30 after Gov. J.B. Pritzker extended the stay-at-home order on April 1.
Pritzker's initial order was through April 7, but he extended it through the end of the month, according to the Chicago Tribune. Schools will also remained closed until April 30, the governor announced.
According to Illinois Senate Republican Caucus, people will still be able to go to work, visit the grocery stores, keep a doctor’s appointment, fill their cars with gas, and visit a pharmacy.
The administration has discouraged people from hoarding food and supplies, as these things will continue to be available. Local restaurants will continue to allow take-out service only. Financial institutions such as banks will be operational, and other essential businesses will remain open.
All non-essential businesses will continue to be closed and people will continue to work from their homes. Residents are asked to remain inside except for essential trips. If they must go outside, they should exercise caution and maintain social distancing while also observing the highest levels of hygiene.
"As we enter this new phase in the fight against COVID-19, we hope you’ll take a moment to remember the heroes who are on the front lines of this pandemic. Doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers are on the front lines providing vital medical care," the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus state on its website. "National Guard, police, fire, and EMTs are keeping us safe while truckers and people in the manufacturing business are keeping our supply chain moving."
The caucus indicated that staying at home helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and allow the people who are fighting its spread to do their work.
With the number of infections proliferating in the country, keeping your distance and staying safe is something everyone should do, the Caucus said.
