POLICY COMMITTEE

Policy 6:170:

Dr. Lee informed the board that the district has recently gone through a Title I audit. He noted that there are items in the budget that provide opportunities to offer some education and have events for parents with regard to Title I. The parent involvement notification and bullet points are anticipated to be added as information for Policy 6:170.

PRESS Plus Update:

Dr. Lee informed the board that the transition to PRESS Plus is progressing and the first draft is nearly completed.

B&G COMMITTEE

John Troy updated the board on the athletic complex progress as well as the HVAC work. He noted that both projects are on schedule.

The pathways for the athletic complex were discussed as well as the concession stand building and area. Also discussed were some of the track and field locations (long jump pits, shot put area, etc.) in conjunction with topography, drainage, and parking lots. Consensus was reached to proceed, but to review the list and confirm that priority items are able to be completed.

Additionally, consensus was reached to recommend the HVAC work for approval at the board meeting. During this time, 5:45 p.m., Cherie Barnes arrived.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Financial Reports:

Mr. Troy provided the board with the monthly finance updates.

Hourly Rate for Bus Inspections:

The hourly rate for bus inspections was discussed and consensus was reached to recommend approval at the board meeting to set the rate at $18.84/hr. (increased from $12.38). This would be going forward.

Computer Lease:

Discussion took place regarding a lease proposal for the infrastructure improvement work done. Consensus was reached to recommend a three-year lease for approval at the board meeting with Sentinel.

Negative Lunch Balances:

Discussion took place regarding negative lunch balances for students as a result of a new law, Hunger Free Students. The law is ambiguous and doesn’t clearly define itself, which has led to various implementations by schools. This has resulted in $39,000 of unpaid lunch balances at MCHS. Consensus was reached that the law doesn’t apply to MCHS and so students who are not on a free and reduced plan will not be allowed to go negative in their lunch account.

SCHOOL CALENDAR

Consensus was reached to place Option #2 of the 2020/2021 school calendar on the agenda for recommended approval at the board meeting. This has a start date of August 10 for teachers and August 12 for students which provides more balanced semesters than the prior version which had a later start.
