Chicago (40,465 cases) and Cook County (28,484 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,850, while Cook County recorded 1,337 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 697,133, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 19,086 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 50,162 were male and 53,093 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,625, while female deaths stood at 2,084.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,024 Hispanics, 226 Asians, 2,024 whites, 1,429 African-Americans, and 150 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
