Chicago (42,967 cases) and Cook County (30,130 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,955, while Cook County recorded 1,369 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 769,564, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 20,254 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 53,139 were male and 56,490 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,711, while female deaths stood at 2,166.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,082 Hispanics, 237 Asians, 2,082 whites, 1,473 African-Americans, and 163 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
