University of Illinois System Senate Committee on Student Discipline met March 23.

Present: Carolyn Beck, Meghan Burke, Darin Eastburn, Arne Fliflet, David Forsyth, Pat Gill, Yuan-Xiang Pan, Kirk Sanders, Sarah Jaeger, Samantha Nardella, Nick Shapland, and Kabir Thombre

Staff: January Boten, Justin Brown, Rony Die, Eric Gorecki, Debra Imel, Abisola Smith, and Robert Wilczynski

Absent: Lynn Barnett Morris, Sudarshana Rao, and Chenshilong (Justin) Sun

1. Call to Order

By Pat Gill, Chair at 3:18 p.m.

2. Minutes

The minutes from February 24, 2020 were not available and will be approved at the April 13, 2020 meeting.

3. Comments from the Chair

No Comments

4. Old Business

a. Student Disciplinary Procedures: Major Revisions to Articles II and III

Tabled – to be presented at a future meeting.

b. SCSD Bylaws (submit next year).

Still pending with appropriate committee.

c. Guidance for Progressive Sanctioning.

Subgroup met for a first time on March 11, 2020. Another meeting is scheduled for Wed., April 8, 2020 to continue discussions.

d. Organizational Discipline

Changes approved at the February business meeting and will take effect in fall 2020.

5. New Business

a. COVID-19 Emergency Procedures

After discussing, it was moved, seconded, and all approved.

b. Subcommittee Selection Update

Interviews start today (all to be held via Zoom video). List of recommended new members will be presented for approval at the April business meeting.

c. Open discussion

6. Adjourn

The business meeting adjourned at 3:44 p.m.
