Coal City Village Board met June 8.

At 7 p.m. in the boardroom of the Village Hall, Mayor Terry Halliday called to order the meeting of the Coal City Village Board. Roll call Physically in attendance were Trustees Dave Togliatti, Mayor Terry Halliday and Matt Fritz, village administrator. Present remotely were Trustees Tim Bradley, Sarah Beach, Dave Spesia, Dan Greggain, and attorney Mark Heinle. Absent was Trustee Ross Bradley.
The purpose of this Public Hearing is to partner with Broadway Family Dental Center, LTD to apply for the Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DECO) for a Downstate Stabilization Grant due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two other businesses, X-Calibur and Broadway Dance Center, have applied and are receiving the grant. Dr. Peter Pullara, owner of Broadway Family Dental Center was in attendance via remote video.
Mr. Fritz explained that there is $8 million available for the Downstate Stabilization Grant and to date $1.3 million has been awarded. Qualifying businesses request up to 60 days of working capital with a $25,000 grant cap. Dr. Pullara is requesting the full $25,000 with the working capital comprising of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), supplies, salary and payroll. Dr. Pullara addressed the Board stating:
• Office has been closed for 12 weeks
• PPE is hard to obtain and is a much higher expense than normal
• Purchased an air filtration system and UV lighting in order to re-open
• Slow patient appointments due to cancellations & insurance issues
• $45,000 per month is his usual average expense
• $25,000 will help financially
Mayor Halliday thanked Mr. Fritz and the Board for their assistance to the businesses in obtaining this grant and that there is a lot of paperwork to be completed by the Village. Clerk Noffsinger read aloud two letters of support of Dr: Pullara's grant request. Those letters were from patient Everett Leasure and Beth Zaun, DDS and an associate at Broadway Family Dental. Dr. Pullara thanked the Board for the Village's support and assistance with this application.
The Resolution approving the Village's partnership with Broadway Family Dental Center will be presented at the Village Board meeting on Wednesday, June 10th.
Greggain moved to adjourn the meeting, second by T. Bradley. Roll call-ayes; Togliatti, Greggain, Spesia, Bradley and Beach. Nays; none. Absent; R. Bradley. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
