The Grundy County Community Foundation and United Way awarded $75,000 in grants to 17 nonprofit organizations and agencies in June.
The money, coming from the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund, will be used for a variety of causes from providing diapers and baby formula to helping victims of domestic violence, the Community Foundation said in a June release. There is also money for mobile food pantries, utility bills, rent and mortgage payments.
“Our mission is to help children and families in need in Grundy County because we truly believe that it does take a village to raise a child,” one the grant recipients, Grundy County Heroes & Helpers, said in a news release. “There are times in all of our lives that a little extra support makes a difference in being able to give our children the best we can. We are so appreciative of the Community Foundation for being a part of our village in order to provide much-needed diapers and formula to families in Grundy County. “
Domestic violence has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, grant recipient Breaking Away said in the release. The grant money will be used to help educate the public on the services the organization offers.
“We want the citizens of Grundy County to know that there is help for domestic violence, both now, and especially during the COVID 19 crisis,” the group said in the release. “ Breaking Away will use educational radio commercials on WCSJ 103.1FM to let listeners know where they can go if help is needed.”
