The Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Community Foundation of Grundy County will be providing grants to 35 local small businesses.
A Chamber news release stated the grants will each be for $1,000 and will be used to support the businesses' efforts to serve the community.
“Yes, we gave a few grants to small businesses as a result of the Diamond and Coal City tornadoes, but not to this extent,” Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Grundy County Julianne Buck said. “This was a purposeful effort to raise and distribute grants to small businesses so that Grundy County can rebuild after this pandemic disaster.”
Buck said that while they only had $35,000 to provide via the Disaster Fund for small business grants if donors wanted to contribute to the fund, they would be able to approve more grants.
"If donors would like to contribute to the fund for this project, we’ll be able to approve more grants, going down the line based on scores," Buck said. "The Foundation can also reach out to donor-advised funds and look to our regular grants budget to see if we can find more money for this project."
