DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 2: NRC Schedules Regulatory Teleconference with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.

The NRC will hold a regulatory teleconference with officials from the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Aug. 25 to discuss five apparent violations of regulatory requirements identified by the NRC during an inspection. 

The teleconference will begin at 1:30 p.m., Central Time, and will be open to the public. The public can listen to the meeting and ask questions following the business portion of the teleconference by calling 888-396-5273, passcode 6516202#. 

The purpose of the teleconference is to discuss the apparent violations identified in a Jan. 30 inspection report. The apparent violations are related to the licensee’s failure to properly prepare written directives for therapeutic doses of unsealed radioactive material; implement and maintain procedures for certain therapeutic administrations involving radioactive material; delegate the authority of the radiation safety officer in writing; and develop certain procedures related to the use of unsealed radioactive materials. 

The inspection was conducted on July 8-9, 2019, and Oct. 21, 2019, in Lewiston, Idaho. No decision on the final safety significance of the apparent violations or any NRC actions will be made at the meeting.
