Grundy Area Vocational Center issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.
The GAVC Fire Science program is happy to be back on campus giving hands on education to our future first responders. Our 1st Battalion is comprised of second year students. They’ll spend the first semester earning dual credit through JJC for Emergency Medical Responder. This class is a prerequisite for EMT-Basic and Paramedic classes. EMR encompasses skills like airway management. Students will also receive CPR certification that they could not obtain last spring due to COVID-19.
Our 2nd and 3rd Battalion students are in their first year of the program. They’ll start off the year learning the hierarchy of the fire service, basics of hose management, water streams, as well as how to operate in their personal protective equipment.
Our students have done a great job with social distancing and mask wearing. We could not be more proud of their efforts.
