The Morris City Council will increase salaries of the mayor, city clerk and aldermen after taking a vote last week, WCSJ News reported.
The mayor and the city clerk's salaries will bump up by 3%, while the salaries of the aldermen will also go from $4,800 to $6,000, the news media reported.
Only the mayor, the city clerk and four of the eight aldermen will receive a raise in the 2021 term, while the four other aldermen must wait until their terms expire in two years. The mayor believes it is unconstitutional to give public officials raises during their current terms, according to the news media report.
Alderman Alex Clubb did not vote for the increases, saying he felt they were unnecessary, especially after COVID-19 has caused a major loss of tax dollars. He was the only alderman who did not vote for the increase, the news media report said.
