Morris Community High School superintendent Craig Ortez, announced on Oct. 26 that the school would return to fully remote learning after cases of COVID-19 were detected among students and staff.
No numbers of virus cases at the school were given in the report at WCSJ FM News. However, the report said the two-week period of full remote instruction came about after a “rapidly increasing number” of quarantines were enacted for students and staffers.
The report indicates the school would return to a hybrid model, part in-person part at-home learning, possibly on Nov. 9 unless the current situation changes for the worse.
“While our number of positive COVID cases is relatively low, we cannot rule out possible transmission within the (school) building,” said Ortez in the report.
Ortez added that he regretted having to temporarily close the campus.
"The safety of our students, staff, and employees is a top priority,” he said. “The district encourages everyone to follow recommendations for mask-wearing and social distancing so that we can give this another try on Nov. 9,” said Ortez.
The high school has 851 students and reopened for in-person instruction in September.
