A report from Icbcradio.com said the La Salle Veterans Home has been hit with a second outbreak of COVID-19 as the number of cases spike statewide in Illinois.

The Icbcradio.com report said La Salle Veterans Home Administrator Angela Mehlbrech sent a letter notifying residents' families that the veterans care facility has 48 cases of the illness as of Nov. 8, and 12 employees testing positive.

Mehlbrech said medical guidelines are being followed at the veteran’s facility including the use of quarantines, and while testing is being done all visitation to the care center is suspended, the Icbcradio.com report said.

Congressman Adam Kizinger (R-Pontiac) expressed deep concern about the outbreak and added that everything possible must be done to protect the lives of residents in the crisis especially those who are the most vulnerable.

“My office will continue to support our VA community as we navigate this crisis together,” Kizinger said, as quoted in the Icbcradio.com report.

Kizinger is also a veteran.
