COVID-19 prompts lesser inmate intake at Grundy County Jail

With COVID-19 cases on the rise again, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has lowered the number of inmate intakes for the Grundy County Jail.

“We can’t roll back to what we did in March,” Grundy County Sheriff deputy chief, Eric Werden, told WSPY.'

Werden stated how the jail, which the station reported has been averaging about 35 inmates in the past month, is getting newer cleaning equipment.

“We purchased, but just haven’t received yet, a cleaning apparatus that sprays a fine mist instead of them walking around with a spray thing,” Werden told WSPY.

He further explained that the spray does property damage as opposed to the mist, reiterating that the apparatus has yet to arrive.

The GCSO’s counterparts in Kendall County are also decreasing their population due to the pandemic.The Kendall County Jail is experiencing an outbreak in which inmates and staff have fallen ill.
