Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.
We were so excited to get our students back this week! We hope all of our school district families had a fun and
relaxing winter break. As we begin the second semester, I will continue to provide this weekly update for your
information.
As you are aware from my last communication prior to the winter break, we have been very encouraged with our
school district data in regards to positive COVID cases and those students and staff who are forced into quarantine
for other COVID-related exposures. Obviously, we are anxious to see what the next week holds as we move a
couple weeks past the winter break, but the early data is still quite encouraging. It is too early to know if we will
still see a post-holiday surge, but to date, our numbers are holding strong.
Since our first day of student attendance on August 19, we have tracked any positive COVID cases of students and
staff in our school district. Whenever we experience a positive case, we follow all IDPH guidelines in terms of
contact tracing and quarantines as well as reporting each case to the Grundy County Health Department (GCHD).
In my last Friday communication, I shared with you our previous 14-day positive student and staff COVID cases.
That information along with our current cases for the most recent 14-day period are shown below. As a reminder,
this data reflects students and staff members who have received a positive test specimen in the last 14 days.
