Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jamie Weigandt as the new resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant. The plant is operated by Exelon Generation Co., LLC., and is located in Byron, Ill., 17 miles southwest of Rockford. Weigandt joined the agency in 2019 as a reactor engineer in the Region III office. Most recently, he was the acting resident inspector at the Dresden nuclear power plant in Morris, Ill., and at the Monticello nuclear power plant in Monticello, Minn. Prior to joining the agency he served six years as an officer in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine force. He also worked as an operations supervisor for 13 years at the Point Beach nuclear power plant in Two Rivers, Wisc. Weigandt holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette University. Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects. Weigandt joins NRC senior resident inspector Diana Betancourt-Roldan at the Bryon facility.
