Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Mar. 2.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Vance Petrella as the new resident inspector at the Point Beach nuclear power plant. The plant is operated by NextEra Energy Point Beach LLC and is located in Two Rivers, Wis., 13 miles northwest of Manitowoc. “Vance Patrella’s dedication, training and knowledge on integrated plant systems and overall plant processes will help assure the high safety standards set by the NRC are being maintained by the plant operator,” said Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.
Petrella joined the agency in 2015 in the Region III office and completed the Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program. Most recently, he was the acting resident inspector at the North Anna nuclear power plant in Mineral, Va. Petrella holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a registered professional engineer.
Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects. Petrella joins NRC senior resident inspector Tom Hartman at the Point Beach facility.
