GREATER CHANNAHON MINOOKA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INC: Grundy County To Be Mass Vaccination Clinic For State

Coronavaccine

Greater Channahon Minooka Area Chamber Of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on Mar. 10.

The Grundy County Health Department provides information about a local vaccination. The State of Illinois is expanding mass vaccination efforts throughout the State, and Grundy has been selected to host an on-going mass vaccination clinic.

The site will be managed by the Grundy County Health Department, but supported through the Illinois National Guard and contractual providers. The identified location is the former Shabbona School (725 School St, Morris). The site will be operational up to six days each week and by appointment to those persons eligible in the current phase. Appointments scheduled at the First Christian Church location will still be honored at the church at the expected time. This mass vaccination site is in addition to the clinic set up at First Christian Church.

Grundy County Health Department is working with the State of IL and IL National Guard leadership to finalize details, and the initial appointment dates will soon be released. Priority will be given to those residents and members of the workforce who have already submitted an interest survey and have been awaiting an appointment time. The site is intended to expedite the delivery and administration of vaccine to local residents, and then be available as a regional mass vaccination site. Over the next several weeks, as vaccine allocation increases, Health Department staff will be reaching out via email or phone to schedule an appointment. The email will come from Grundy Health Department Vaccine Information.

“The Grundy County Health Department is grateful for the support of the Illinois National Guard to assist in local vaccination efforts. Through this partnership, additional resources are expected to arrive in Grundy so as to increase the number of individuals who can receive COVID-19 vaccine each week,” said Public Health Administrator Michelle Pruim.“The Illinois National Guard will be working alongside the Grundy County Health Department, partner agencies and local volunteers to safely and effectively administer doses as they become available to Grundy County.”

Vaccinations (as of 03/08)

Total number of doses received in Grundy: 9,540

Total number of doses* administered in Grundy: 9,011

*Note: Total doses does not distinguish between first and second doses. All received doses have been allocated to use within the coming days.

Total number of doses administered to Grundy residents*: 10,970

Total number of Grundy residents fully vaccinated: 3,794

Percent of Grundy population fully vaccinated: 7.44%

Weekly, each local health department is provided a maximum allowable allocation by IDPH. Grundy consistently requests the full allocation. With the aid of many volunteers and partner organizations, vaccines are administered safely and efficiently.

Local retail pharmacies in Grundy are able to offer vaccine by appointment made at their corporate website.Vaccine supply for retail pharmacies is coming directly from the federal government, and not the IDPH supply. Vaccine remains limited for retail pharmacies also. Such pharmacies include Walgreens and Jewel-Osco. Pharmacy appointments are not restricted to residents within a certain county or city. Pharmacies may ask for a copy of a health insurance card, as it is permissible to bill for the administration of the vaccine (but not the vaccine itself).

Please tune in to WCSJ each Monday and Thursday at 8:40am for updates related to vaccine distribution visit www.grundyhealth.com or the Health Department’s Facebook page.
