Illinois Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) highlighted the Illinois Unclaimed Property service in a Facebook post on Tuesday as part of an awareness push for residents to identify unclaimed property.

As part of the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, the Illinois Unclaimed Property page allows state residents to check and see if there are any unclaimed properties in their names, in addition to checking the status of a claim.

"I am working with the Treasurer's Office to try and reunite residents of the 79th District with any unclaimed property they might have! For more info, click the link below," said Haas in a Facebook post on Tuesday that included a link to the Unclaimed Property page.

According to the Unclaimed Property page, unclaimed property can include a wide variety of financial assets such as: checking and savings accounts, uncashed checks, stock dividends and stock certificates, insurance payments, utility deposits, customer deposits, accounts payable, credit balances,  refund checks, money orders, traveler’s checks, mineral proceeds, court deposits, and even uncashed death benefit checks and life insurance proceeds.  However, unclaimed property does not include physical items of value, such as real estate or vehicles.

In addition to claiming property, the Unclaimed Property page also allows residents, businesses, and organizations to report property that has not been claimed by anyone, allowing those searching for unclaimed property to check and see what is currently available for claiming.

Haas's work within the state of Illinois extends outside the Treasurer's Office, including her recent selection for the prestigious Edgar Fellows Program which prides itself on supporting emerging leaders from across Illinois, according to Will County Gazette

“I'm really looking forward to spending time in Champaign next week, learning from and engaging with some of the most talented leaders in Illinois," said Haas on Facebook.
