University of Illinois System Senate Committee on Student Discipline met Sept. 27.

1. Call to Order
A regular meeting of the Senate Committee on Student Discipline was called to order at 3:23 p.m. with Chair Pat Gill presiding.
2. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the May 3, 2021 meeting were approved as distributed by roll call vote.

4. Chair’s Remarks
Chair Gill remarked on the difficulty of the previous academic year and the likelihood that this year would be similar. 5. Old Business
a. Informal Resolution Process update: Brown discussed/described the informal resolution process. Pilot started in the summer of 2021. Brown and Boten reported positive feedback from students participating in the process. Gill asked if this a “warning”. Brown explained it gives the student a chance to discuss the situation without disciplinary action.
6. New Business
a. Brown’s proposals to amend sections 8.e.15, 1.c, 8.i, 12.a, and 15.a of Appendix D of the Title IX Sexual Harassment Regulation were approved (see attachment)

b. Gorecki and Wilczynski’s proposal to modify Sanctioning Guidance for Personal Cannabis Use/Possession was approved (see attachment). Gorecki explained changes to policy will make the cannabis policy fall more in line with the alcohol policy.

d. Proposals from Members
No proposals were offered. A discussion ensued regarding the feedback during training of the Returning Members of the subcommittees on undergraduate and graduate student conduct. Subcommittee members would like more communication between the SCSD and the subcommittees when an appeal results in a decision being modified or overturned. They also mentioned they would like a notification from the SCSD or the Advisor when a case has become final. They would like more clarification on when to use Dismissal Held in Abeyance.
