Illinois State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) is promoting Coal City Public Library's (CCPLD) newest service: renewal of license plate stickers.

According to CCPLD, the service does not include title changes or replacement of license plates but library card holders will receive a discount.

"Renew your license plate sticker at CCPLD," Coal City Public Library District wrote in a Jan. 20 Facebook post. "Avoid the lines at the DMV and get your license plate sticker renewed here. CCPLD cardholders receive a discount on the service fee."

Sen. Rezin took to Facebook to voice her support for the new service.

"BRAVO to the Coal City Public Library District for offering yet another service to the community!" Rezin wrote in a Jan. 21 Facebook post.

In response to various impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Illinois recently announced a three-month extension of driver's license and ID card expiration dates but said nothing about license plate stickers, NBC 5 Chicago reported.

"During the pandemic, my office has continued to serve the public, including face-to-face transactions, in a safe and responsible manner," Secretary of State Jesse White said, according to NBC Chicago. "This extension is necessary as my office continues to address the heavy customer volume caused by the COVID-19 pandemic through expanded online services and the introduction of appointments at select Driver Services facilities."

According to the Secretary of State's office, individuals should start the process no later than a month before their stickers expire.

The Secretary of State's office also issued a notice stating that the 2023 stickers will not be printed in the usual format due to supply issues. New stickers will be issued, and the office will not be able to individually print information on the new stickers.

Standard stickers will be provided once they become available. Law enforcement has been made aware of the situation.
