University of Illinois Senate Committee on Campus Operations met Jan. 27.

I. CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Senate Committee on Campus Operations (CO) was called to order at 9:00 am with Chair Dallesasse presiding.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the December 1, 2021 meeting were approved as distributed by roll call vote.

III. PUBLIC COMMENT
No requests received.
IV. CHAIR’S REMARKS
Chair Dallesasse thanked our guests for attending the meeting. Chair Dallesasse welcomed McMurray to the committee.
V. UPDATE ON FACILITIES AND SERVICES (Kamarah)
Kamarah provided the following updates:
• F&S continues to receive requests to fabricate and install plexi glass barriers
• F&S held a Building Service Workers job fair in collaboration with McKinley, Housing, Campus Recreation, and Illinois Human Resources at the iHotel. The turnout was great and F&S anticipates the hiring of new Building Service Workers will be done in a few weeks.
VI. UPDATE ON THE INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABILITY, ENERGY, AND ENVIRONMENT (White) White shared the following:
• New research projects funded from iSEE Seed Program. One is Campus as a Living Laboratory (CALL). They will be looking at Fifth and Hill Street neighborhood in Champaign. Researchers will develop low-cost sampling devices to monitor ambient and indoor air, water, and soil quality and build the capacity in communities to use them — thus developing a model to crowdsource environmental monitoring data that can be used at the national level. There was previously a gas manufacturing plant in that space. • Elizabeth Murphy is the New Managing Director at iSEE. Elizabeth Murphy was previously with the Center for Advanced Bioenergy and Bioproducts Innovation (CABBI).
VII. UPDATE ON THE STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE (Maring)
Maring shared the following:
• The first meeting of the semester will be on January 28
• Spring Step I Application deadline for student led projects over $10,000 in budget and all faculty/staff led projects are due on March 28. Spring Step II applications are due on April 25.
VIII. UPDATE ON BUSINESS PRACTICES (Patterson)
Patterson shared the following:
• The Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS) website has a wealth of information for anyone looking for guidance on business services. Development has been picking up. They are targeting resources for July.
• Patterson will work with McMurray on Amazon procurement challenges as it relates to research purchases.
IX. UPDATE ON BUSINESS PRACTICES (McMurray)
McMurray shared the following:
• Information on the formation of the new Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Operations
• Website will be launched soon. The email address is ovcao@illinois.edu
• Working with the COVID operations leadership team on campus guidelines for hosting or offering day/overnight camps
• Campus Instructional Facility will be under this office. Some of the initial statistics are:
o Building was dedicated on October 1, 2021
o Fall 2021 – 36 departments; 405 sections; 11,658 enrollment count
o Spring 2022 – 43 departments; 433 sections; 16,545 enrollment count
o Accepting applications from Registered Student Organizations for space requests
o Espresso Royal Café opened Spring 2022
o Video board will be installed over the monumental staircase this summer
o Resolving the issue with ADA parking in the lot South of the building

XI. NEW BUSINESS
Guest Presentations
• Paulins and McMullen shared a presentation with the committee regarding parking maintenance and repair of parking garages and surface lots and parking rates.
• Paulins and DeLorenzo answered questions that the committee provided prior to the meeting discussing parking and transportation matters.
• Pionke asked questions of Paulins and DeLorenzo regarding handicap accessible parking on campus.
• Discussion was had regarding different requirements and processes on new buildings and accessible parking accommodations vs. renting space in a building and accessible parking accommodations.
Discussion of visitors to future meetings
• Pedestrian safety (bicycles/hoverboards/skateboards); rules of the road
• University of Illinois Police Department
• Outside contractors interacting with campus populations
• Space Usage on campus (remote/hybrid/in person workforce)
• Purchasing Updates
• Associate Director for Campus Sustainability (March or April) meeting
