Illinois State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) took the time to congratulate Dr. Judy Mitchell on her retirement after she served as President of Joliet Junior College for the past five years and during a global pandemic.
Rezin celebrated Dr. Mitchell's milestone in a May 26 Facebook post.
"Thanks to Dr. Mitchell and her team for making time in their busy schedule for me to stop by to share my heartfelt farewell as Dr. Mitchell will be retiring," Rezin wrote in the post. "It's been a pleasure working with you, my friend. Congratulations to you on your next chapter ---- The best is yet to come!"
Dr. Mitchell announced her retirement back in February of 2021. According to a press release, she worked for Joliet Junior College for "a quarter of a century."
In the release, Mitchell said she was proud of everything the school accomplished. "The clarity that 2020 brought to me personally is that I have accomplished what I set out to do when I accepted this rile, plus so much more," she added. Mitchell noted her retirement would be effective December 31, 2021. She stated it was time for her to look at the next phase of her life and spend more time with family.
Mitchell started working for JJC's Computer Information Office Systems Department as an administrative assistant in 1996. According to the release, she also worked in Adult and Family Services as a program management specialist. In 2005, she became director of business and auxiliary services. Seven years later she was appointed to the Vice President of administrative services position. Back in September 2016, the JJC Board of Trustees unanimously approved her college president.
