Five-0 Racing for Special Olympics Illinois was a huge success!
If you didn't hear, there was an amazing fundraiser for Illinois Special Olympics this past weekend at the Grundy County Speedway. 31 Police Officers from the Chicagoland area raised money for their teams, then raced their squad cars for the title of Fastest Cop. It was a great day, and the crowd that came to support the drivers and special olympics participants was amazing!
This year, Deputy Chad Hrechko was asked to participate and he teamed up with Bob's Advanced Auto & Tire in Coal City. Deputy Hrechko was recognized for being the top fundraiser as our team "GCSD BOLO" raised over $31,000! Overall the 31 teams raised over $250,000 for this great cause!
Deputy Hrechko finished in 2nd place in his qualifier heat race, and in the main feature race he finished 5th. Not too bad for a rookie driver with 1.5 hours of practice and lessons, all while driving with a giant police dog on top of his car!
Congratulations to the Illinois State Police and their car #100. Trooper Howard Hansen won the title of Fastest Cop with their Chevy Caprice. Midlothian Police Lt. Adam Thibo #502 took 2nd, Buffalo Grove Officer Robert Lawyer #500 finished 3rd, and 4th place went to Public Safety Direct, John Watson in the #5-0 car.
This would not have been possible without the amazing support of so many individuals and businesses from through-out our local communities. Deputy Hrechko would like give a huge THANK YOU to everyone that supported the team including:

The #00 will be back again for next year's event, and you may even see it sooner than later at the speedway!
