8th Grade Career Expo

On Tuesday, October 25th, a representative of Coal City – Danny Lewis, the Village’s Public Works Street and Alley Superintendent, will join representatives from Minooka and Morris to highlight the job opportunities that exist in the near future for area eighth graders.  Coal City leaned on its professional service organizations to provide some additional information within the interactive Grundy County 8th Grade Career Expo.  Materials provided by both the Illinois City/County Managers (ILCMA) as well as the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) shall be utilized in order to provide resources for those interested in joining this stable industry.

Local municipal and county jobs vary slightly depending upon the type of government structure charged with providing each service.  Two links provided by ICMA tackle why our local students should consider a career in local government – Why Consider a Career in Local Government? | icma.org. In addition, Students will be able to view the variety of different careers made available at – Local Government Management: A Career Overview | icma.org.  Rather than just supply flyers and additional paper to the participants, a video prepared by ILCMA will introduce these concepts – (122) ILCMA Explore Local Government Careers – YouTube.

This opportunity is an excellent opportunity for younger residents of Coal City and our surrounding municipalities and county to get an idea of some of the opportunities that surround them each day and the services being provided each day as they travel to and from school and enjoy the many extracurricular activities that come with being eighth graders.
