City of Highland Louis Latzer Memorial Public Library Board of Trustees met Oct. 18.

The monthly meeting of the Louis Latzer Memorial Public Library Board was called to order by Sharon Rinderer on October 18, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
Roll called showed the following members present:

William Piper and Louis Latzer, Associate Members
Angela Kim, Director
Absent: Justin McLaughlin and Josh Short
Approval of Minutes from the September Regular Meeting: Minutes will be amended to show that a binder was purchased not donated. Bill Wagner moved to approve the minutes and Nancy Genteman seconded it. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
Public Forum: None.
September Treasurer’s Report: Although no HACF foundation amounts were recorded yet, tax money was received. Wagner moved to approve the report and Marshall Rinderer seconded it. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
September Bills: Wagner moved to approve September bill payments and Joyce Zerban seconded it. Roll was called and Shaun Voegele abstained. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
Librarian’s Report:
HACF: Between grant money and additional donations, Angela Kim received $3,000.00 in monies for the digitization of the German microfilm.
HACF TRUST: Yearly distribution funds totaled $18,998.94. The money goes into the Endowment Fund and pays for building expenses.
PER CAPITA GRANT: The grant paid for a new Graphic Novel custom shelf and will also pay for design updates to the Juvenile Circulation Desk.
ST. LOUIS PARANORMAL SOCIETY: The staff and the public events were successful. There was a waiting list for the public event. DVD’s of paranormal evidence are available through the library.
TORT LIFE SAFTEY REQUEST FUNDS: 10% director’s salary = $7,000.00
35% custodial/maintenance salary = $5,000.00
Completion of the replacement of the old ceiling tiles and lighting Children’s Library = amount unknown
COVID RECOVERY GRANT: The generator, paid for in this month’s bills, was funded with Illinois State Library Grants. It will power the main lights and the computers.
TREATS ON THE STREETS: We are participating again this year; however, it may be our last year to hand out full size candy bars.
GARDEN CLUB: The club will hold their monthly meetings at the library and we will be able to collaborate with them when they host guest speakers.
JURY DUTY: Kim is on call for federal jury duty until the end of October.
Book Committee Report: Because there is no report this month, two reports will be noted in November. Unfinished Business: The Sheila Weber Estate currently totals $170,000.00.
New Business: The board reviewed and approved the new Request for Reconsideration of Material Form and the Louis Latzer Public Library Collection Development statement. Genteman moved to approve both documents and Voegele seconded it. Motion carried.
Other Business: The Historical Society’s mural restoration, in our auditorium, has been put on hold. On September 22, Carlyle Library will have a Friends of the Library event. Kim will check on backing up the digitization drive with HCS. New Pet Milk art was installed in the library.
Adjournment: M. Rinderer moved to adjourn and Genteman seconded. Motion passed.
