In a Jan. 12 news release, Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) announced she had been named to the Republican caucus leadership team.
“It’s an honor for me to be named to this leadership team and I am as motivated as ever to work alongside my fellow leaders in our Republican caucus to get to work,” Haas said on her website. “There is no shortage of issues we need to address to keep moving our state forward, and I am well-equipped to start having those productive conversations that will get us started.”
Haas was sworn in on Jan. 11. According to a news release from her office, the representative's legislative priorities this term are public safety, health care, and economic development for the 79th District. “As we enter this new General Assembly, I am focused on issues that affect not only our great state but my district at home,” said Haas. “We have a growing public safety crisis and the largest tax burden of any state – those issues will be the driving force behind my priorities this year, and I look forward to passing legislation that will work to improve those significant issues.”
Haas secured her seat for a second term in the November election, when she received 58.5% of the vote. Democratic challenger Erin Slone received 41.5%
On Jan. 17, Rep. Haas will hold a roundtable meeting with constituents from 3 to 5 p.m., at her Kankakee District Office, 370 E Court St. This is her third annual ‘New Bill Roundtable.’
