Illinois state Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee), in a Facebook post on Wednesday, noted that lawmakers would return to Springfield after missing the Democrats’ self-imposed deadline to agree on a state budget.

“Today is our scheduled adjournment for our spring legislative session this year,” a press release on Haas’s website stated. “However, we will need to keep working past our scheduled adjournment until we pass our state budget.”

In her Facebook post, Haas shared a link to a Capital News Illinois article examining the bills up for consideration before lawmakers in Springfield, including legislation regulating cannabis, proposed changes to the state’s biometric privacy law, a broad elections bill, and an ethics proposal that would ban political donations from red light camera companies.

According to Capital News Illinois, several measures were adopted that had been winding through the General Assembly in recent months, including measures providing for optional all-gender restrooms, gun industry regulations, environmental issues, and several other bills.

Several Republicans claimed a few of their Democratic colleagues said they have not seen a draft budget proposal, Capital News Illinois reported.

In the “This Week in Springfield” note on her website, Haas shared some work her staff has been focused on including attending a meeting about a proposed mental health court in Kankakee County hosted by Judge Lindsay Parkhurst. Local law enforcement, service providers, and elected officials participated in the meeting.
