In a recent Facebook post, Illinois State Sen. Sue Rezin announced her new interns for 2023, describing them as "rockstars."
"Meet our 2023 summer interns!" Rezin wrote on June 8. "They will have the unique opportunity to learn the ins and outs of working for the #38thdistrict from my amazing district team! We are so excited to have these rockstars be a part of #TeamRezin #futureleaders #summerintern #2023."
The Grundy County Summer Internship Program dates back to 2013, thanks to a partnership between Rezin and the Grundy County Economic Development Council to aid local business owners who were interested in identifying and retaining local talent.
"Over the last decade, this program has grown exponentially and shown itself to be a true success that provides local high school students with an opportunity to gain meaningful professional work experience," Rezin said.
In May 2022, Rezin posted a press release from the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus, seeking interns for a 10.5-month program. These interns would gain experience and education at the Capitol, earning four graduate-level credits from the University of Illinois Springfield. The program aimed to train interns as professional legislative staff members, covering various areas such as communications and policy.
"When we first started this program, it included only three participating companies and 12 interns," Rezin said. "Today, the program has triple the number of interns and participating businesses."
As mentioned in her recent news release, Rezin was on hand at the Wesley Center in Morris on June 8 to launch the 10th annual program and introduce a new group of interns who will assist her in different offices located in Morris, DeKalb and Peru.
In a previous Facebook post, Rezin spoke of her involvement with the Grundy County Summer Internship Program.
"I am so thrilled to be a part of the Grundy Economic Development Council's Summer Internship Program! It's inspiring to see our local businesses come together to provide meaningful opportunities to young people and help them gain valuable experience in the workforce," she said.
She expressed appreciation to Nancy Norton, Lance Copes and Erin Murphy-Frobish for leading this initiative and working to benefit the 38th District communities, which she represents.
Rezin has been actively involved in initiatives beyond her legislative duties, her website bio said. She played a role in establishing the Grundy County Internship program and the Illinois Valley Flood Resiliency Alliance, which focuses on preparing communities, local governments and emergency personnel for extreme weather. Additionally, she contributed to the development of the Operations Engineering and Technician technical program at Joliet Junior College.
