Rep. Jed Davis (R-Newark) and State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) are joining forces to organize a Foster Care Supplies Drive from Nov. 13 to 16, aimed at gathering essential items for children in foster care.

“We’re helping foster families this week. Speaking from experience (as a foster parent), these supplies are a huge blessing!” Davis said on Facebook.

The community is encouraged to contribute by dropping off items during business hours at designated locations:

  • Rep. Jed Davis’ Office at 1925 Bridge St., Yorkville, IL
  • Senator Sue Rezin’s Office: 1802 N Division St., Suite 314, Morris, IL.
The organizers have requested specific items to address the immediate needs of foster children, including diapers, winter gloves, hats, and coats according to Davis’ Facebook post. These essential winter items are crucial for ensuring the well-being and comfort of children during the colder months.

There are currently over 8,000 children in foster care across Illinois, as per a report from the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services.

Earlier this year a CBS News investigative report revealed systemic failures in the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The report found that nearly 41% of children in the system moved four times or more with 7,000 experiencing 20 or more placements.
