The Illinois Veterans History Project, a collaboration between the Library of Congress and the Illinois Secretary of State's office, is calling on the public to contribute to its mission of preserving the stories of veterans. The project aims to collect and make accessible first-hand recollections of veterans from all branches of the military.

Illinois military veterans and their families are being urged to share their stories, photos, and mementos through the project's website, www.idaillinois.org. The website allows users to search for submissions by the name, war, and hometown of the veterans. With over 6,700 records already in its collection, the project is making significant progress in documenting the experiences of Illinois veterans.

To submit their materials, veterans and their families can visit www.ilsos.gov/veteranshistoryproject and complete an Illinois Patriot Information Form. The form can then be submitted electronically to ilvhp@ilsos.gov or mailed to the Illinois State Library in Springfield.

State Senator Sue Rezin also highlighted another opportunity to honor veterans. She reminded people that the Senate Republican Caucus' Veterans Memorial Wall is currently on display at the State Capitol in Springfield until November 27th. The memorial wall serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made by veterans and is a way for the community to show their gratitude.

The Illinois Veterans History Project provides a valuable platform for veterans to have their stories heard and documented for future generations. By preserving these firsthand accounts, the project ensures that the contributions and sacrifices of Illinois veterans will never be forgotten.
