Illinois Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris) has been elected as the new President of the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL). The announcement was made during the organization's annual conference in Orlando last week.
In her acceptance speech, Senator Rezin expressed her gratitude for being chosen by the members of the NFWL. She stated, "It is truly humbling and an honor to be chosen by the members of the National Foundation for Women Legislators as their new president."
Senator Rezin's appointment as president was a result of her selection by the NFWL's nominating committee earlier this year. She will serve as NFWL President from November 2023 through November 2024.
Speaking about her new role, Senator Rezin emphasized the importance of collaboration among elected women to advance public policy ideas that benefit their constituents. She said, "The NFWL provides elected women an opportunity to collaborate in order to advance public policy ideas that will make a positive difference in the lives of their constituents. I look forward to this new role within the organization as we strive to assist and empower elected women throughout the nation."
The National Foundation of Women Legislators, founded in 1938, is a group of more than 5,000 women elected officials at the state, county, and local levels across the nation. The organization's mission is to provide resources and support to elected women for leadership development, exchange of diverse legislative ideas, and effective governance.
Through conferences, state outreach, educational materials, professional and personal relationships, and networking opportunities, the NFWL aims to empower women in elected positions and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences.
