State Senator Sue Rezin | Illinois General Assembly
Legislation advanced last week in Illinois with the aim of enhancing workforce development efforts in the state by introducing a comprehensive system to evaluate the effectiveness of state-funded economic development programs and resources.
According to Senator Dave Syverson, the sponsor of Senate Bill 2907, the legislation, known as the Illinois Job Training and Workforce Development Transparency Act, is designed to bring more transparency and accountability to job training and workforce development initiatives in the state. The bill mandates the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, in collaboration with relevant state agencies, to produce a detailed report that covers all state-funded job training and workforce development programs.
The proposed report will include critical information about job training programs, such as the funding source, the agencies involved, the organizations receiving funding, and the demographics of the individuals served by these programs. It will also outline various outcomes of the programs, including enrollment numbers, types of training offered, employment placement rates, wage growth, and workforce retention rates.
Senate Bill 2907 has successfully cleared the Senate as of April 11 and is now awaiting deliberation by the Illinois House of Representatives.
