City of Vienna City Council met March 20.

The City Council of the City of Vienna met in regular session, Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Vienna City Hall with the following members and guest:

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS PRESENT:

Steven Penrod, Mayor

Alan Racey, Alderman

Tim Elliott, Alderman

Austin Tuey, Alderman

Angela Moore, Alderman

Melissa Hill, Alderman

There being a quorum, Mayor Penrod called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at

6:30 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Hill made a motion to Authorize and Approve the Omnibus Consent Agenda consisting of the March 6, 2024 meeting minutes, February Treasurer's Report and the Warrant ($11,074.49). Alderman Tuey seconded the motion. All present in favor, motion carried.

Jennifer Jacobsen was present to discuss details of the upcoming Junque Jamboree, Saturday, April 27th. Jacobsen said the fall event date is scheduled for September 21st. Jacobsen asked if a handicapped parking spot could be painted up to the curb for safety precaution.

Alderman Racey made a motion to Authorize and Approve $1,300.00 (Tourism Funds) for Solar Eclipse Event Entertainment, Monday April 8th: Heath Holloman-$300.00, Jake Meyers Band- $700.00, and sound system costs-$300.00. Alderman Hill seconded the motion. All present in favor, motion carried.

Alderman Hill made a motion to Authorize and Approve $1,552.98 (General Funds)- 25% of project cost for Field #2 girls batting cage cover at city ballpark. Alderman Moore seconded the motion. All present in favor, motion carried.

Alderman Racey made a motion to Authorize and Approve city treasurer to close a (dormant) vehicle account at Legence Bank. Alderman Elliot seconded the motion. All present in favor, motion carried.

Alderman Tuey said he obtained a quote for the annual fireworks display in the amount of $13,529.57 from American Patriot Pyro, Inc with a show date of Wednesday, July 3rd. Tuey said he would contact local businesses for sponsorships to help with costs. Council had discussion. Alderman Tuey made a motion to Authorize and Approve the display quote for the city to host fireworks. The motion was seconded by Alderman Racey. All present in favor, motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT -

Mayor Penrod introduced Duc Quach, CEO of Lumy's Group. Quach briefly discussed partnering with the Glass Doctor to establish a vacuum insulated glass manufacturing facility in Vienna.

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS

Fire Chief Williams discussed and provided pictures to council of a 1996 Spartan Fire engine with 33,000 miles from Kinmundy Fire Department for $60,000.00. The purchase would be placed on the next meeting agenda for approval. Williams said Vienna Auxiliary would purchase new tires for the truck.

Alderman Moore said the community Easter egg hunt was successful, saying 160 kids had registered this year. Moore thanked all involved that helped with the event.

Alderman Tuey thanked the public works department for quickly repairing a waterline break at 10th and Locust. Tuey questioned parking plans around the city square for Saturday, June 1st as the Masonic Lodge would be hosting a cornerstone dedication ceremony for the new Johnson County courthouse.

Mayor Penrod said he would be meeting with Southern Five Planning to discuss community needs concerning grant funds.

Penrod said selected applicants for the public works position were interviewed. The council would go into closed session for employment at the next scheduled meeting.

Penrod mentioned Rt 146 East Road closure for the weekend.

As there was no further business to discuss, Alderman Racey made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Alderman Moore. Mayor Penrod adjourned the meeting at 7:14 p.m.
